What would it feel like to believe you exist, only to find out that who you think you are, is, in actual fact, that which you don’t know you have become? La Mama Theatre presents an Australian premiere of this extraordinary contemporary play.
Singapore 2026. Suffering the loss of her family in a horrific plane accident, Katherine Lee is left alone. At twenty-five she marries Tony Szeto, a pioneering biomedical scientist whose fascination is in the ‘nature of being’ and growing. Via nano-engineering, Tony has advanced to dangerous and exciting frontiers.
As Tony is faced with disaster, he makes a choice. When Katherine reads in a local newspaper that Tony has been assassinated, she discovers that she is not the only one married to him. Katherine stands to lose everything she believed she had, and to gain everything she never believed she would find. This is a story of life after life, after life.
Cogito is a Latin term that describes the process of thinking to determine one’s own existence, an idea addressed in Descartes’ philosophy, ‘I think, therefore, I am’, or cogito ergo sum.
